The first marking period...
When I started art this year I had a lot more confidence than I did last year and I was excited to see if my art skills improved at all. I noticed my improvement after the pencil drawing of the fruit. But I also noticed that shading in color pencil didn't improve that much. After working with colored pencil a lot, I realized that I have to be more patient and use darker colors more, especially black. The first time I painted my mini self- portrait I just kind of painted my face without putting any texture in and didn't try to make it look more realistic. After not being satisfied with my first self-portrait I did another and I did it slowly and added texture and made it look more realistic. I saw and felt the change after I did the second one and now I'm more confident for when I go to paint the large self-portrait.
Fruit pencil & color pencil still life.
The first project we completed this marking period was drawing a plate of fruit which included apples and oranges, some cut and some not. Every student's picture was different depending on the angle on which they looked at the different fruits. As I was drawing the fruits I noticed that the oranges were harder to draw and I had to re-do them several times. Drawing the fruit in pencil was much easier for me then drawing them in color pencil. I enjoyed drawing the fruit in both pencil and color pencil to see how different they made the fruit look. Here is a picture I drew of the fruit in pencil and color pencil

Self- Portrait
Right now we are currently working on a self- portrait. Drawing myself was definitely the hardest thing I've ever had to draw. I decided to divide the paper into many sections to try to make it easier to approach and to focus on one portion at a time. After I drew my self portrait on a large sheet of paper, I then had to trace a portion of it on another smaller sheet of paper to practice painting and experimenting with different colors. It was fun experimenting with different color paint and after experimenting with different colors I decided that I'm going to use a teal-ish color for my self-portrait.
